Itinerary

Day 1 - London - Amsterdam
Admire the White Cliffs as you approach Dover for your ferry crossing to Calais. Travel through Flanders into Holland, see the landscapes that inspired many of the great Dutch Masters. In Amsterdam, discover Dam Square and the Mint Tower. Consider a relaxing cruise in a glass-topped boat along the city’s canals. In the evening, join your fellow travelers and your expert Tour Director at the hotel for a Welcome Drink.

Day 2 - Amsterdam - Rhine Cruise - Mannheim  
Travelling via Arnhem along the Ruhr and Rhine valleys you pass through Cologne, with its famous gothic cathedral. You are immersed in picturesque scenery all the way to Boppard, where a boat takes you past vine-clad hills and crumbling medieval castles to St. Goar. See the famous Lorelei Rock, named after a siren who lured fishermen to their deaths with spellbinding songs.

Day 3 - Mannheim - Heidelberg - Munich - Innsbruck
Enjoy views of the red sandstone castle towering above Heidelberg, considered to be one of the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. Crossing the Swabian Alps you arrive in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, for an orientation tour of the Olympic Stadium, City Hall and the Marienplatz. A short drive through splendid scenery and across the Austrian border brings you to Innsbruck for an overnight stay. You might consider experiencing some traditional Tyrolean entertainment this evening.

Day 4 - Innsbruck - Brenner Pass - Venice
Enjoy a walk through Innsbruck this morning and admire the architecture including the Hofburg and the Golden Roof - built originally as a royal box for the emperor Maximilian I in 1500. Shop for alpine souvenirs then enjoy spectacular scenery as you drive along the Brenner Pass into Italy and across the Dolomite Mountains. Through the Adige Valley past Lake Garda and Verona - the landscapes of Shakespeare’s - you arrive in the enchanting city of Venice. Cruise by private launch to St. Mark’s Square, viewing the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace along the way. Visit a traditional glass-blowing workshop then spend the afternoon exploring the sights of your choice. Finish an eventful day with dinner at your hotel.

Day 5 - Venice - Rome  ( 2 nights )
South across the Veneto plain, you pass by Bologna and over the dramatic Apennine Mountains, continuing into the Lazio region to Rome, the Eternal City.

Day - 6 - Rome Sightseeing and Free Time
Your morning sightseeing tour begins with a visit to St. Peter’s Basilica - the most significant Christian church in the world - to see Michelangelo’s Renaissance masterpiece, the Pietà. Crossing the River Tiber to ancient Rome you see the Forum and the Colosseum, plus the enormous Circus Maximus, famous for chariot racing. Spend the rest of the day exploring your sights. Maybe go to see the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel or treat yourself to a shopping spree on the Via Condotti. Experience 'la dolce vita' - you’ll quickly understand why Italy is the most stylish country in Europe!

Day - 7 - Rome - Florence
From Lazio travel north into Tuscany, through rolling countryside and along the valley of the River Arno to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. Discover the city’s rich artistic and medieval history with your expert Local Guide. Visit the Piazza Signoria with its impressive sculptures and stunning palazzi. Marvel at the Baptistery and the multi- marble Duomo, designed by Brunelleschi. Explore the Ponte Vecchio which spans the River Arno. Afterwards, appreciate the sights of your choice. Perhaps visit the Academy of Fine Arts to see Michelangelo’s statue of David - an absolute must! Join your travelling companions this evening for a Highlight Dinner at a local trattoria.

Day - 8 - Florence - Gotthard - Lucerne ( 2 nights )
Continuing north, and passing Milan - Italy’s commercial capital - via picturesque Italian Lakes you cross the Alps into Switzerland. Then high into the mountains following the scenic Gotthard highway, which leads from the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino to the heart of the country, you eventually arrive at the beautiful lakeside town of Lucerne.

Day - 9 - Lucerne Orientation and Free Time
Discover the Lion of Lucerne during your morning orientation tour. Created to commemorate the heroism of Swiss Guards who defended Louis XVI in Paris in 1792, Mark Twain described it as 'the most moving piece of stone in the world'. Walk along the 14th century covered Chapel Bridge, crossing the River Reuss, the country’s fourth largest river. Consider an exhilarating mountain excursion or shop for Swiss chocolate and a cuckoo clock!

Day - 10 - Lucerne - Basel - Paris ( 2 nights )
Travelling east you pass Basel and cross the border into France. In every direction, vineyards, castles and picturesque villages provide a memorable backdrop for your journey. Maybe explore Paris tonight and see the stunning illuminations.

Day - 11 - Paris Sightseeing and Free Time  
See all the famous sights during your morning guided tour including the Champs Élysées, Notre Dame Cathedral, Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. Ascend to the second level of the Eiffel Tower for a breathtaking view of the city. Spend the rest of the day exploring the sights that interest you. From the riches of Versailles to the marvels of the Louvre, and the coffee shops of Montmartre to the of the Tuilleries, Paris is bursting with life. Treat yourself in chic boutiques or simply relax in a café and watch the world glide by. This evening, celebrate with your Tour Director and companions at a Farewell Dinner in a local bistro.

Day - 12 - Paris - London 
See the Canadian War Memorial at Vimy Ridge as you drive across the battlefields of the Somme and the war bunkers lining the Opal Coast. From Calais you cross to Dover by ferry and travel on to London by coach, where your journey of discovery ends.

New Years Eve in Paris will be a night to remember. A late night transfer will take you back to your hotel after seeing the breathtaking fireworks display near the Eiffel Tower. Tour departure 27 December will celebrate New Year’s Eve in Rome in true Italian style with an authentic Italian inspired menu. After, celebrate with the locals near the Colosseum on Via dei Fori Imperiali. Welcome in the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display.
